Jason's No-Poo hair care

Updated: Jun 12, 2018

In my quest to replace store bought disposable items and lead a more sustainable and less commercially dependant life, shampoo and conditioner were high on my list of items to source an alternative for.

There are many recipes for alternatives out there but the simplest method had the most appeal to me, enter No-Poo Method. I wont go into great detail as there is a tonne of information about it available from many sources including Mr Google. So go forth and research and decide for yourself.

My recipe is as follows:

  • Hair wash: 2 table spoons baking soda mixed with 2 cups water

  • Hair Rince: 2 table spoons apple cider vinegar (with the mother) with 2 cups water

  • Two squeezable sauce bottles

Method:

  1. Thoroughly rinse hair with water.

  2. Apply hair wash (baking soda mix) and massage into scalp and hair.

  3. Thoroughly rinse hair again.

  4. Apply hair rinse (apple cider vinegar mix) and massage into hair.

  5. Thoroughly rinse hair again.

Points to note:

  1. The mixtures are watery and very thin, so squirt them into your hair in several places massaging at that time. Don't place it on top of your hair like you would with shampoo because it will just run off.

  2. Your hair will feel worse after step 2. For me, my hair feels really oily/slimy after using the baking soda rinse and I ask myself what the hell am I doing.

  3. Step 4 stinks like vinegar. You cant escape it.

  4. Step 5 removes any and all vinegar odour and leaves my hair feeling fresh and clean.

  5. Dandruff, the bane of my existence. For as long as I can remember I have always had to use anti-dandruff shampoo to control it. Key word there being control. I expected to continue using anit-dandruff however for me the problem is now gone.

Thanks Suitman :) A positive that has emerged from expanding my DIY ability has been customisation. Becuase I make it, I can vary it to my liking.

Great to see experimentation with different recipes and that you have a creative approach to customising creations to your liking.
